Overcome fear and adversity:

Invite a Demon to Tea:
Self Exploration to Overcome Fear and Adversity

Learn how to embrace challenge and change and find liberation in letting go of old habits, experiences and belief systems. An expanded version of week #2 of the Dance with Fire six-week series, this three-hour workshop is designed to help you fearlessly face your demons. The fear of the unknown can be paralyzing, causing poor decision making or lack of action. Manifesting fear in the body can instigate illnesses of many kinds based in stress, depression and anxiety. When we begin to understand the underlying experiences that fuel our fear, fear dissolves leaving us in a place of strength and stability. Just like turning the light on in the dark, by turning towards adversity instead of away from it we can see more clearly and are able to relax with what is.

The first half of the workshop will start with an accessible Warrior / Kali based asana flow, complete with pranayama to soothe anxiety and restlessness, followed by Tonglen meditation. After releasing bad feeling and negativity, body and mind are grounded into a place of serene strength, providing better receptivity to face underlying anxieties. Next, there will be discussion including a basic understanding of the effects of fear and trauma and how they can control us emotionally and physically.

After a short tea break, there will be another short asana flow to maintain physical and mental spaciousness. The last part of the workshop will guide the practitioner through a series of exploratory questions and time will be available to write, draw or find other ways to investigate fear. The workshop ends with an opportunity to cultivate constructive ways of moving through fear and adversity to realign within a state of equilibrium. All levels welcome.

“Real fearlessness is the product of tenderness. It comes from letting the world tickle your heart, your raw heart. You are willing to open up without resistance or shyness, and face the world.”
~Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Hear what Invite a Demon to Tea participants are saying:

"I made an important connection between a past relationship and a current one that is challenging for me. It felt like a mental/emotional barrier that I was still operating in a way to protect myself from the past and was being triggered to do so in the present. Having this insight has allowed me to think more expansively about want I really want to be doing creatively and feel less inhibited to pursue it."

"I am feeling really good from [the workshop]! I got through two topics that I was angry about and then I spent most of the workshop reflection time thinking about the future that I want for myself.
It was positive."

"...loved the blend of asana, guided meditation, dharma talk and creative exercises - I left feeling like my world had expanded."
